This is true as we glance at the Greek word for forgiveness that means to free fully, i.e. Literally relieve, release, dismiss or let die, pardon, divorce from, depart, dismiss, let go, loose, put ( send ) away, to release, to be freed.
To anyone who may ask, God gives His gift of forgiveness, meaning; He fully frees, releases, dismisses and pardons us from the debt we owe and guilt of our transgressions. He sets us "body, soul and spirit" at liberty. However, he doesn't stop there. Our Heavenly Father then tells us to pardon others, as well as forgiving ourselves, in the same way we've been forgiven, promising to give us the power, by God's Holy Spirit, to do so.
How does one go about pardoning themselves? There's no exact way but these recommendation might be useful.
First, understand that one has to take the decision to forgive ones self based on God's instruction to do so. To forgive is a choice and an act of the will is critical to cause it to happen.
Leviticus 19:18 claims you shall love your neighbor as yourself... Loving yourself is a command of Our Lord and love always includes forgiveness.
Next, if you haven't already asked, ask your Heavenly Father to pardon you for the sins you've done. It's vital to do that prior to working through forgiving yourself. Remember, He's waiting to pardon you and will graciously do therefore if you ask Him.
Nehemiah 9:17 But you are a God of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness.
Then, sit down quietly with God and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the things which you've not let go of or given yourself forgiveness for. Jot it all down on a notepad. Be certain and put down all the specific details list the names of individuals you hurt and the ways that you caused them harm. ( No one will see your writings. )
From there express how you're feeling because of what you did; Are you angry at yourself? Are you feeling ashamed? Unworthy? Be very fair, for God knows it all already. This is a good place to release all the emotions you have carried or tried to reject.
Now, take the decision to forgive yourself as God has forgiven you. Literally release, dismiss, let die, pardon, let go, loose, put ( send ) away, release and set yourself at freedom from the incorrect you are guilty of. Put your wrongdoing into His hands and ask Him to heal your emotional injuries and enable you to move on without regrets, let go of the past and start fresh!
Ultimately destroy your list and throw it in the trashcan as a visual prompt that the guilt of what you have done has been forgiven and carried away, gone forever.
