Buy Canon 60d: Every Pro Newspaper Shooter I know Uses 60d
I would strongly suggest you buy Canon 60d if you are in the market for a great DSLR camera. Why do I say this? It rocks in every way.
Audio levels can be controlled manually, which makes for far better audio recordings.
The image quality is a big reason you should buy Canon 60d. I think the 60d is the best of all the DSLR cameras. It is more robust than the t2i, better controls, and it is cheaper than the 7d or 5d, but, and has the image quality of the 7d.
The sensor is not full frame, but big enough. It is still the same size as regular 35 mm. Having a big sensor boils down to the benefit of being able to produce beautiful images with a shallow depth of field: a typical look of 35mm film. Before this, such a cinematic look could only be achieved with adaptors.
Cameras that cost ten times the price are not as good in sensor size and image quality as this.
The other great thing is the flip out LCD monitor, which is the only DSLR that can be used on a Steadicam without investing a ton of money.
Just flip out the screen and let it fly, the screen swivels dynamically, so shooting at extreme angles is made easy this way. It works great on even the Nano Flycam, just make sure the LCD monitor is flipped out before you balance it. If you don’t, the Flycam will not balance properly.
It really is possible to shot a feature length film on the 60d. Honestly I am shooting one right now, and it really has never been easier. All of my set ups are quick and easy.
Think of it this way: I set up a wide shot. Then I just pick up the camera still on the sticks, and move it in for the medium shot, then the two shot, pick it up again, and get a close up, that's how simple it is. Sometimes I don't even need lights depending on the ISO.
You will need a crew to do this with 35mm film. Shooting a feature with the 60d is almost like shooting news: it can be fast and spontaneous.
I love the light weight of it. Is the 7d and 5d too heavy? Yes and no. For me I prefer the 60d. I can take the 60d anywhere, and shot cinema quality images, in public places without drawing a lot of attention to myself, because I look like a tourist. This is a very practical camera, and its size is perhaps its greatest assets.
The controls are easier to use than the t2i. Going through menus, or changing the white-balance on the fly is fast.
Lots of pros use the 60d, they love it. In my carrier I personally have not had a more inexpensive camera that has produced such awe inspiring images. Any one serious about DSLRs should consider to buy Canon 60d. See some cool footage I shot on the 60d. Drop over to my Canon 60d review.
