Connecting Yahoo Mail To Outlook 2010 - Roadblocks For People When They Try To Configure Outlook 2010 For Yahoo Mail Access
If you're like me, you have been anxious to set up a Yahoo Outlook 2010 connection. And it is easy to configure a Yahoo Mail in Outlook 2010 connection, if you know how to deal with a few details.
But from the email I've received, and the posts I've observed online, many of folkshave run into one or more of those issues. Listed here are a few of the mistakes that users tend to make when trying to make Outlook 2010 and Yahoo Mail work together:
1. Using an Incompatible Version of Yahoo Mail
Yahoo won't let you connect to your free Yahoo email account with any mail program including Outlook. I've seen various theories why they do this, but in the end it doesn't matter why.
To be able to make a Yahoo Outlook 2010 connection, you must upgrade your existing Yahoo Mail account into a Mail Plus account or a Business Mail account. For most people, I recommend Yahoo Mail Plus.
This upgrade is pretty painless. You don't have to change your email address or do anything differently. From our perspective, the only significant change in Mail Plus is that it can connect with Outlook. But it does cost you a little bit of money ($19.95/year, or $1.66/month) in exchange for the big convenience of getting your Yahoo mail in Outlook.
2. Trying to Use an Incompatible Protocol
We need to lapse into geek talk here for a minute. Users with a little knowledge in this sort of thing try to set up a Yahoo IMAP connection, because the IMAP protocol is ideal for this kind of task.
But Yahoo only supports POP3 connections, no IMAP at all. The POP3 protocol isn't as capable of advanced functions as IMAP, but it works just fine for sending and receiving Yahoo mail using Outlook 2010.
3. Guessing at Some of the Settings
While you can certainly make this connection once you know how, the correct settings to use aren't intuitively obvious to most people. As a result, they get one or more of the fiddly little setting wrong, and the whole project falls down.
This is why it is important for you to work with instructions from someone who has already set this up many times. It can save you lots of stress. Surely you don't want to spend hours messing around with this trying to get it just right on your own.
Now that we've covered these three issues, I think you will agree that you will be able to set up a Yahoo to Outlook link with the help of some high-quality instructions.
